Club Red starts off with a bang!

We were pleased to have author and poet, Barbara Nickel, at our school to kick off Club Red.  She is a prize winning author of  two intermediate novels, a picture book, and two works of poetry.  She is a local author living in Chilliwack with her husband and two sons.
She came and did a fantastic presentation of her latest book  "A Boy Asked the Wind".  She also stayed and did a special Poet's Toolbox for the intermediate students who were able to start a poem using similes.  As well, we now have signed copies of all her books in our school library!
It was a great presentation and a great privilege to have the chance to interact with a real author.
A job well done to the Bookfest kids who led the assembly and introduced the author.

Owls in the Library

We kicked off our month long study of Owls with a visit from the Orphaned Wildlife Society (O.W.L.S.) She did an amazing talk on raptors in our area, showed us many hands on items and brought two live birds to show us. It was very interesting and the students learned many new facts about owls.  We will be hosting a number of owl themed events for the month of January for teachers to participate in such as:owl pellets and owl stations!

Bookfest Movie-the 33

We had a great time joining all the the other bookfest students in our school district to watch the movie: the 33. This movie was based on the true story of the Chillean miners trapped underground for 3 months in 2010.  This movie was suspenseful and heartwarming! The theatre applauded at the end!

Bookfest - permission slips due!

We are going to see the movie "the 33" on Monday November 1st.  Please make sure your permissions slips are in by Friday!
This movie is directly related to the book When the Worst Happens by Tanya Llyod Kyi, the author that will be speaking at Bookfest this year.  Should be fun!
